My Journey In the NMI
Before joining the NMI I had no experience in coding, quite frankly I would say I lacked knowledge in technology. I decided to pursue the New Media Certificate to change that. We live in a world that is constantly changing and evolving and technology directly impacts that. In NMIX 2020: Intro to New Media, we learned that the goal of the NMI is to make students “technowledgeable”. This means the NMI aims to give students tools to understand emerging media and be able to apply it in real-world settings.
One thing I love about the NMI is the hands-on approach to learning. I am able to learn effectively this way and partake in trial and error. This program has also given me access to network with people in different industries. Hearing from and getting to ask questions to professionals who were once in the same boat as I is very valuable. This certificate has allowed me to step out of my comfort zone. The courses I have taken have challenged me to learn in new ways and change the way I think. Through the New Media Certificate, I have learned basic coding skills in HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, and WordPress. What I have learned will help me stand out when I enter the workforce.
